Voter registration is low in Mpumalanga

A total of 77 268 people registered for the first time to vote in Mpumalanga during next's year's national and provincial elections.

NELSPRUIT – The province’s residents did not turn out in huge numbers this past weekend for voter registration.

According to Mr Sibusiso Nkosi from the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in Mpumalanga, 77 268 people in Mpumalanga registered to vote in next year’s general election for the first time on Saturday and Sunday.

Nationwide, approximately 1,1 million people had visited registration stations on Saturday alone.

He added that the province as a whole experienced very few disruptions and no incidents were recorded in the Lowveld area.
