Callahan Buchanan and Natasha Emmerick from Uplands represent Mpumalanga Schools at the South African National Equestrian Shools Association (SANESA) National competition held at Kyalami Equestrian Park. To qualify for this competition the riders competed at three selection shows and then are selected for the team based on their top performances. This is true for all of the provinces and the competitors are all at the top of their game. Classes can be as large as 60 and earning a rosette is an achievement. The team results are based on the total scores of the four riders’ results who make up the provincial team.
Callahan was selected to compete in both the 90cm 2 Phase and Competition Show-jumping classes and the 80cm Equitation on her horse Golden Kiwi. They managed to earn a respectable 13th position in the Equitation. In this class often the difference between first and other positions is onlya matter of a 2 point difference.
Natasha was selected for 1.10m Show-jumping, Elementary Dressage, 1m Equitation and Open Working Hunter Showing class. She finished 16th and 17th in her two Dressage tests, with her team coming in second and fourth for the tests respectively. She aided the Mpumalanga team to a fourth place in the working hunter class. Sandman and Natasha jumped their way into the rosettes for the 2 Phase competition, ending with a 13th position
