Hazyview matriculant achieves academic excellence

Ex Summerhill Prep student achieves full colours and receives trophies

Caroline Buckland, an ex Summerhill Prep student, completed her matric year at Penryn College with an arm full of trophies. She received trophies for both accountancy and advance program mathematics. A third trophy was awarded to this gifted student for being the best overall student in all four science subjects. Additionally she received full colours for academics and half colours for leadership.

Carolyn’s caring nature led her to serve on Penryn’s service committee where she worked on projects such as collecting clothes and shoes for the less fortunate. Other projects included her reading to children in orphanages.

In 2012 Carolyn was chosen by White River Rotary Club to represent South Africa in their student exchange programme. To this end she spent 7 weeks in Finland and got a chance to see Father Christmas in Lapland. Later in the same year she participated in a programme at NASA at the Kennedy space centre. The programme is geared towards children who excel in science.

Carolyn’s interests includes drawing, creative writing, reading and music. She plans to pursue a career in medicine and has already been accepted at Wits University to undertake her studies.
