GA MASHABELA- The president of the Congress of the People (COPE), Mr Mosioua Terror Lekota paid a visit to the platinum city this past weekend.
Lekota was accompanied by the party’s provincial chairman in Limpopo, Mr Patrick Skhutshi, COPE’s Sekhukhune regional chairman, Mr Lucas Selahle and Tubatse subregional chair Mr Lekhele Moraba.
He was here to attend a funeral of one member of the party, who hailed from the village.
Mr Lescious Sepedi Mashabela was a member of the party in the provincial legislature, and was regarded by most as the future leader of the party.
His life was cut short, after he succumbed to a short illness at the aged of 30.
Speaking to Steelburger/Lydenburg News, Lekota sang the fallen hero’s praises, labelling him as an “icon”.
“The country has lost a disciplined and charismatic future leader; he was kind and respectful and never harmed a fly. The party will write a short story about the life of this young man, he left too soon,” said Lekota.
He also took the opportunity to lambaste corrupt leaders, who misuse public and taxpayers’ money.
“We need good leaders, who will focus on service delivery and not on enriching themselves. It’s time we elect the right and credible leaders,” he added. The funeral was attended by hundreds of COPE members.
