NELSPRUIT – The provincial legislature yesterday appointed a new member to the National Council of Provinces (NCOP).
Ms Sonja Boshoff, the deputy provincial chairman of the DA, is to take one of Mpumalanga’s six permanent seats on the lower house of Parliament once she is formally inaugurated as an MP in Cape Town.
Her nomination follows on the party stripping her predecessor of his membership after he was found in breach of the DA’s code of conduct. Mr Veli Manzini lost his seat on the NCOP along with his party membership on November 28.
Boshoff, who has been a councillor in Thaba Chweu Municipality (TCM) since 2006, told Lowvelder she requested the move to Parliament. Read the full story in the print edition on Friday.
