Sport empowers the young
Eight schools from disadvantaged communities had an opportunity to showcase their talent in sports at Mbombela stadium during the official launch of the All4One project 2013 of Imbumba Foundation.
NELSPRUIT – Speaking to the newspaper, the CEO of the foundation Richard Mabaso said launching the project is going to play a significant role when it comes to empowering young people from disadvantage communities .
”The foundation was established in 2009 with the aiming to empower rural communities ,but it’s not the first to launched this project but this time around we have decided to give learners an opportunity to use their talent in two types of sports which is soccer and netball because we have noticed that in rural areas in the province the are lot of young girls and boys who are talented but they don’t get a especial training so that can use uit to have a brighter future “he explained .
He alluded that during the launch of the project they were not focus only in sports activities but they learners get an opportunities to discuss about lot of challenges that they faced in daily bases in their communities since they were sharing ideas with delegates who are coming from England who graced the event .
”We didn’t only give them an opportunity to shine with their talent in sports , as they were also discussions regarding the challenges that they face in life , we can’t run away from reality our youth are facing lot of problems such as teenager pregnancy ,school drop –out and substance abuse just to name the few. I want to indicated that the money that we fund raised through our project it helps a lot because we able to use it back to the communities “.
This paper learnt that it’s not for the first time for Mabaso to be on the sports light of ploughing back to the communities, during the Mandela month , he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro with Sibusiso Vilane the first black African to climb the mountain , to fund raised more than 67000 sanitary towels that were distributed to needy learners in different schools in the country he concluded by saying “We are going to continue to strive to make a different in disadvantage communities “
