SEKHUKHUNE – The leaders of the DA in Limpopo have requested that the Auditor General (AG) immediately investigate the alleged payment of more than R200 000 into a bank account of the ANC by the Makhuduthamaga Municipality.
The party’s provincial leader, Mr Jacques Smalle said this is completely unacceptable and constitutes direct looting of the municipality’s resources by the ANC.
“This is public money for use only by the municipality. Political parties cannot enrich themselves at the expense of citizens this way,” Smalle stated in a media statement.
“What makes things worse is that Makhuduthamaga Municipality is one of the most rural ones in the country. It has a huge service backlog and needs every cent it can get to deliver more services. This payment into the ANC account is obviously illegal and must be investigated as soon as possible,” he added.
“We urge the AG to probe this irregular payment as a matter of urgency, and to take action against implicated officials and politicians. The guilty ones must be punished and the money must be paid back to the people of Makhuduthamaga,” continued Smalle.
This statement comes after the publication of the story by The Sowetan of November 7, which states that an amount of R242 193 was transferred into the ANC’s Sekhukhune region bank account on February 6 this year.
