Security held at gunpoint at local mall

Security guards at I'langa Mall were allegedly held at gunpoint, as three men were trying to break into a minibus taxi with a Swaziland registration plate on Saturday afternoon.

The incident ocurred in broad daylight. According to Mr Jacques Meiring of Bossies Community Justice, the guards saw the men breaking the window of the minibus and rushed to the taxi to stop them. The suspects warned the guards that if they came any closer, they would shoot them. “At around 16:14 I received a call and rushed to the scene. The incident took place right at the far left end of the entrance at Mopani. The suspects had a nine-millimetre pistol and were dressed in black,” said Meiring.

They then allegedly fled in a white single-cab Toyota Hilux with registration number HCZ841MP. “The suspects were armed and dangerous. We informed Capt PC Smit of the White River Flying Squad. The bakkie, which apparently belongs to one of the suspects’ father, was found in KaNyamazane just after 17:00. The suspects were nowhere to be found.”

At the time of going to print, police spokesman, Sgt Gerald Sidebe, could not comment on whether any arrests had been made.
