NELSPRUIT – After delaying its party list conference twice, the ANC finally met on Monday to finalise its lists. It was widely expected that the party would announce its candidate lists today, but this has been delayed.
Mr Gwede Mantashe, secretary-general of the ANC, confirmed during a press briefing this afternoon that ANC president Mr Jacob Zuma and deputy president Mr Cyril Ramaphosa are at the top of the national list of each province.
Among the obstacles to the lists being released were three regional secretaries from Mpumalanga who reportedly wants to go to Parliament, a matter that is being appealed.
Mantashe said the lists complied during the provincial list conferences last year and national meeting on Monday must still be cleaned before being made public.
He also said that serving councillors would not be allowed on the list.
