MPAC back on track with investigation

The committee has until the end of March to table its findings and recommendations on the municipality's finances.

NELSPRUIT – Mbombela’s Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) should be able to make its findings and recommendations on the Auditor-General’s (AG) report to council by the end of March as required.

This was decided when the committee sat at last on February 21 after the meeting scheduled for the week before was postponed at the last minute without explanation.

The committee is mainly responsible to exercise oversight over council’s executive functionaries to ensure good governance, and includes oversight over municipal entities.

MPAC will now invite everyone involved in compiling the reports, including the AG, the South African Local Government Association (SALGA), and the municipality’s audit committee to appear in front of them.
Based on the information gleaned from this, questions will be put to the executive and its members may be asked to appear in front of the committee too.
