TONGA – All seven suspects accused of shooting and killing Const Sifiso Mabuza briefly appeared in the Tonga Magistrate’s Court last Friday.
Mr Victor Sibiya, Wiseman Ngomane, Sindi Mvubu, Mpendulo Makamo, Soneni Mhlabane, Absolom Nkosi and Ms Teressa Mabaso, remanded in custody and had to reappear on February 26 (yesterday).
All of the accused have been charged with the murder of Mabuza.
Mvubu, Ngomane, Sibiya and Mabaso were arrested early this year after police had recovered the gun used in the killing on November 8, 2013.
It was found in the possession of Mr Power Mahlalela, who said he got the firearm from Mvubu, Ngomane and Sibiya.
Four of the seven suspects who were initially arrested on the same day, were released due to insufficient evidence.
One of the accused has confessed to being hired by Mabaso to carry out the hit on Mabuza.
Police also believe they have arrested the trigger man, Mr Innocent Lucas Ngomane, also known as Mantinti.
He was arrested last year during the festive season.
Allegations that Mabuza was one of seven police officers on a so-called hit list, have not been confirmed.
At the time of going to press, the outcome of the court proceedings was still unknown.
