Operators disclaim sabotage to pump station

“We want to make it clear to the residents that we did not sabotage the pump station. After five months not receiving our shift allowance, it has become impossible for us to work like this."

LYDENBURG – An operator at the plant recently told the newspaper that the public should be aware that they did not sabotage the pump station in any way.

“In November 2013 we wrote a letter to the human resource department with regard to our shift allowances. They said that they will handle the matter and refer back to us. In February this year we again wrote a letter to the Technical Department informing them of the same issue. On 3 March we informed them that we will no longer be working shifts as we are not being paid. During the power failure on 5 March the pumps flooded and now they (TCM) are blaming us.”

The office of the Municipal Manager on 7 March sent the operators a notice of intention to suspend them.
