Mbombela mayor off to parliament

The ruling ANC is also sending a convicted sex pest to the National Council of Provinces.

NELSPRUIT – The executive mayor of Mbombela Local Municipality is on her way to parliament.

Mr Sibusiso Themba, spokesman for the provincial ANC confirmed yesterday evening that Cllr Cathy Dlamini will be representing the province in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) as one of the ruling ANC’s four permanent members.

The other three are Mr George Mthimunye, Cllr Speedy Mashilo and Mr Jomo Nyambi.

Mthimunye is a convicted sex pest and former municipal manager of Dr JS Moroka Municipality. Earlier this year he was appointed as the executive manager of corporate services in the provincial legislature.

Mashilo is the mayor of the Nkangala District Municipality, while Nyambi was an ANC representative in the NCOP over the past five years.

Each province gets 10 representatives. In Mpumalanga, the DA and EFF also each won a permanent seat. The other four seats are non-permanent and are delegated from legislature.
