Famous fete promises plenty of entertainment

"We are also proud to announce that the evening's entertainment will be provided by Brenden Ledwaba, as well as by our regular supporters, the band Gibraltar."

The famous St Peter’s fete is back this year with a fantastic line-up of stalls and the Idol, Brenden to entertain the crowd. Recently the school had a meeting with staff and parents to start the preparations for the fete on June 6.

Deputy principal Michelle Gilday explained the different stalls that will be open, from tombola and the famous Austrian stall, to an African food and various game stalls.

“The school was founded in 1957 and the first pupils and parents were mostly from the surrounding farming communities. Many had put their children in the hostels and this is when the fete started. They would come from Malalane and Waterval Boven with homemade wares.”

She said the sisters used to make their famous Austrian schnitzels and gingerbread biscuits, while the Portuguese community prepared their favourite, peri-peri chicken.

This was the biggest way the school raised funds and kept the fees affordable for parents.

“We are also proud to announce that the evening’s entertainment will be provided by Brenden Ledwaba, as well as by our regular supporters, the band Gibraltar.

“We will also have Black Chain performing.”

The tea garden and the beer tent are back, plus bookstores, the white-elephant stall and the put-put course.

There was also a request to parents for help in getting a Bedouin tent for some Arabian nights’ entertainment.

So, with preparations running smoothly, the fete will be an event not to be missed.
