BURGERSFORT – Social media has been buzzing about the municipality breaking down hawker stalls yesterday.
Some are saying that trading from their stalls is the only income some hawkers have to put food on the table. They are also saying that the municipality should have allocated designated areas where the hawkers can deal until the municipality builds them brand new stalls.
This is indeed the case. According to Thabiso Mokoena, spokersperson of Greater Tubatse Municipality, they informed the hawkers that they can set up their temporary stalls at the carwash at Marone Centrum and next to the hawkers association in Eddie Sedibe Street.
The hawker stands broken down in Eddie Sedibe Street should have relocated to these designated areas before the end of April. In some cases hawkers did not comply with this notice.
