Update – Protesters burn down house

Protesters set the house of Cllr Aaron Simelane alight and it burned to the ground.

A man who was seriously injured when the police fired rubber bullets, has been taken to Barberton Provincial Hospital.

According to Peter Bakker, who took his employee, the man’s sister, to hospital, his abdomen was ripped open. SAPD officials were on their way to the hospital to take the man’s statement as a case of attempted murder was to be opened.

The injured claimed he was shot by members of the tactical response team with live ammunition.

Cartridges were also found on the scene.

A foreign national’s shop has also been under attack, and was stripped of all stock.
