DRIEKOPPIES – Residents of this community have welcomed and are excited about the completion of the re-tarring of the Driekoppies bus route which got underway earlier this year.
Phase one of retarring of the road has been completed in less than five months since it commenced in May. According to locals, they are just so happy to have seen the project completed in record time.
“Personally I am happy that we have a proper road once again, as for some time we had to endure the poor state it was in,” said Driekoppies local, Mr Senzo Khosi. He appreciated the fact that the project had created employment opportunities for some community members. “The contract has made it possible for some of our brothers and sisters to put food on the table for their families. For me, that is one of the important benefits of this contract.”
Nkomazi Local Municipality spokesman Mr Cyril Ripinga, said they were in the process of arranging an official handover of the road by the contractor to the municipality.
“As the mayor said during her budget speech, the reconstruction of the bus route would be completed during this financial year. The road has been completed and very soon the contractor will officially handover the completed project to the municipality, and then the municipality will hand it over to the community,” explained Ripinga.
