It seems as if the boys of HTS Middelburg underestimated the determination of Penryn’s u/15 A cricket team during their clash on last Saturday at the latter’s cricket oval.
The visitors chose to bat first with Harold Roux and Jeandre Visser as opening batsmen. Both of them were sent back to the change room for only two runs each.
Their number 6 batsman, HJ du Plessis, did his team proud with a total of 38 runs. Although they were on track in what seemed to be a convincing victory, Penryn’s mainstay bowler Ryan Hood stopped them right in their tracks as he took five valuable wickets in 9,3 overs. After 42,3 overs, the guests lost all their wickets and was left to defend a score of 156.
The home team took to the crease next with Jordan Harris and Luke Grove as opening batsmen. Both of them did their team proud with a sturdy start with a partnership of 81.
Harris was also the team’s highest scorer by reaching his half-century.
The home team only lost three wickets during their 30,3 overs in front of the wickets. They easily beat the convincing score of 156 by the visitors.
Their hard work and confidence lead their them to a seven-wicket win. Pieter Smith, coach of HTS Middelburg ,said that he saw trouble coming as soon as Penryn laid hands on their bats.
