Fabulous outfits and amazing cars at Uplands farewell

A party bus, limousine and Ferrari counted among the vehicles that dropped the Uplands College matrics off at their farewell.

An evening of oriental magic awaited Uplands College matrics at the end of the red carpet last week. In preparation of their matric farewell, pupils and organisers folded 1 000 paper cranes, called senbazuru. According to Japanese tradition, this enabled them to make a special wish and it must have worked, because the matrics enjoyed the great weather as crowds cheered them on as they arrived.

The event was held at the school and was in true Uplands style, a glamorous affair, with Japanese decorations and an oriental-style menu. The girls looked amazing in glittery dresses of all colours, while their dates wore tailored suits. The couples had to stop to pose for photos every few steps and one was even “photobombed” by two friends, to the amusement of the crowd.

The transportation, however, stole the show, with vintage cars, a gholf cart, a Ferrari, party bus, safari vehicle, a limousine, a Mbombela Traffic Department vehicle and even a fleet of motorcycles counting among the escorts.
