Corruption allegations against municipality
While the investigation is on, the municipality will function as normal and improvements will take place as planned.
BURGERSFORT – The Greater Tubatse Municipality GTM) is facing allegations of corruption made by the SIU (Special Investigation Unit). Unexplained expenses have led to corruption allegations and investigations.
On August 4 the following story was published in Beeld, “Pres Jacob Zuma reported last week that a special investigation will take place at the Vhembe District and the Greater Tubatse municipalities in Limpopo on allegations of corruption.
“The DA submitted a complaint to the Hawks in terms of the money problems at the GTM. According to the report there was R71 million of unlawful expenses and R78 million of unauthorised expenses.”
Steelburger/Lydenburg News interviewed municipal spokesman Mr Thabiso Mokoena. According to him the municipality is being investigated by the Hawks for corruption. “Tender documents were taken for further investigation and as soon as the report is written and the documents have been returned, the municipality will publish the findings,” he said.
While the investigation is on, the municipality will function as normal and improvements will take place as planned.
“During this year improvements such as the building of roads and bridges to connect villages was implemented. In 2015 we will see improvements taking place regarding roads. The gravel road between Magaba Filling Station and Morone Shopping Centre will be tarred and the storm-water drainage will be fixed because of the damage the water does to the roads. Mokoena said he would keep the community informed about the progress of the corruption investigation.
