Young learner makes Tubatse proud in athletics
Thato came first, and received a gold medal for her efforts.
MAMPURU – An 11-year-old learner of Nkokoane Primary School, Thato Surprise Makakola, represented Limpopo in the Athletics South Africa (ASA) cross-country championship. The grade five learner travelled to George to participate in the event on September 13.
Thato came first, and received a gold medal for her efforts. The principal of Nkokoane, Mr Gilbert Ntladima, thanked Ngululu Bulk Carriers (NBC) Pick n Pay Steelpoort and Mbojomane Transport for financial assistance.
“If it was not for these three companies, Thato would have been stranded, we thank them for believing in the girl and ensuring her dreams were fulfilled. They dug deep into their pockets, by allowing the parents, and her trainer Makgabo Mahladisa, to accompany her on the trip.
This achievement comes after her excellent performance at the provincial championship early this year. According to Mahladisa, Thato has been consistent in her running since the beginning: from circuit, to cluster to regional and provincial level.
“She was outstanding, she managed position one in her first three races and I believe she is the one to watch in future,” said Mahladisa.
