Bathopele athletes make Tubatse proud

Since the club‘s inception the team has taken part in four leagues across the province and interprovincial championships in Pretoria.

BURGERSFORT- Bathopele Athletics Club was formed a year ago, but its achievements speak volumes. The talented team have garnered support from most locals and are even on every sport fanatic’s lips.

The club recently participated in the national cross-country championships in George, Western Cape, with 17 athletes from all over Tubatse, travelling to the Cape to participate.

Nomthandazo Pholane (9) was one of their best athletes as she came second in the u/10 race, receiving a silver medal. Lerato Malepe came fifth in the girls u/12 cross-country.

Thabo Tjie, Steward Mokoena, Nqobizile Shingange, Makofane Phomelelo and Clement Mogawane were all in the top 15 of their categories.

Since the club‘s inception the team has taken part in four leagues across the province and interprovincial championships in Pretoria.

Speaking to Steelburger/Lydenburg News, Elphus Mokoo, coach and trainer, was satisfied with the achievements of the club. “We are so proud of our boys and girls and intend to develop this club by accommodating talent from the whole of Sekhukhune. We request any kind of support and sponsorship from the good Samaritans out there to assist in taking the future of these innocent souls to greater heights,” Mokoo said.

He pleaded with local mines and businesses to help sponsor the club. Those interested in joining and funding the team can contact co-founder Tshepo Maphake on 079-178-6628.

The club is made up of learners from Letau Secondary School, and Ntepane and Tatanyane primary schools.
