Municipality investigated, based on corruption allegations

The DA submitted a complaint to the Hawks in terms of the money problems at GTM

BURGERSFORT – The Greater Tubatse Municipality (GTM) is being investigated on allegations of corruption due to unexplained expenses. Steelburger/Lydenburg News previously reported that tender documents had been investigated by the Hawks.
“The DA submitted a complaint to the Hawks in terms of the money problems at GTM. According to the report there was R71 million worth of unlawful expenses and R78 million of unauthorised expenses,” as published by Beeld on August 4.
In an article that appeared in the Steelburger/Lydenburg News, Mr Thabiso Mokoena, municipal spokesman stated that as soon as the report was written by the Hawks and the documents were returned, the findings would be published.

“A staff meeting was held on Monday, but no feedback has been received from the Hawks regarding the investigation. The report will probably only be given next year. The municipality will publish the findings to the community as soon as we receive the report and documents,” Mokoena said.
