Busy year ahead for Barberton Kick-boxers

Barberton kick-boxing’s schedule is action-packed for the year ahead. Kick-boxers have already started preparing as the first event of the year will take place at the K-fit gym on Saturday. This interclub tournament will be in preparation for the Mpumalanga Provincial Trials which will be held at Graceland in Secunda on February 21.

The kick-boxers who get selected for the Mpumalanga team will be off to Cape Town over the weekend of May 1 where the South African Championships will take place.

March will be another busy month as the kick-boxers will participate in the Great North 1 Tournament in Pretoria.
Exiting news is that there is a chance that the biggest kick-boxing tournament in Mpumalanga, the Jock of the Bushveld Tournament, might be hosted in Barberton this year. Barberton Times will inform the community as soon as confirmation is received.

The rest of the year, the Senior World Champs will be in Ireland during September. Various smaller tournaments throughout are also on the agenda during which the skill of the participants will be put to the test.
According to coach Brandt Ehlers, this sport is for young and old of both genders and the benefits are endless. “Besides taking kick-boxing up as a sport, learning to defend yourself, getting fit, increasing hand-eye coordination and improving your overall physique are some of the advantages,” he said. “Seeing how children’s overall self-esteem improves is a wonderful experience.”

Class times are as follows:
Primary school and toddlers – Tuesdays and Thursdays from 16:00 to 17:00 (Parents welcome to join during classes)
High school and seniors – Tuesdays and Thursdays from 19:00 to 20:00. Kick-boxing classes are offered by the K-fit gym in Elsasser Street.
Toddlers enrolled in Kleutervriend Kleuterskool will attend classes at the school on Thursdays at 10:00.
