MBOMBELA – The chief of the fire department in the local municipality has been sacked.
Spokesman for Mbombela Local Municipality (MLM), Mr Joseph Ngala confirmed this week that Mr Simon Selogiloe, the chief fire officer was dismissed on January 21 after internal disciplinary processes were completed.
“The details cannot be shared with third parties at this stage as Selogiloe has the right to an appeal process if not satisfied with the outcome,” Ngala said.
Selogiloe’s case was separated from those of 35 fire and traffic employees who were suspended in November. By all indications their fate remains to be decided after they were suspended for three months after allegedly embarking on two unprotected strikes in October.
The fire chief is not the first manager in the municipality to lose his job recently.
In December the general manager of community services, Mr Rasheed Matola, was also dismissed by MLM. The former municipal manager,
Mr Xolani Mzobe’s dismissal was also upheld in the same month after he had appealed against it.
According to the municipality, these dismissals were as a result of an investigation into allegations of irregularities pertaining to procurement of services when Mbombela co-hosted the Orange Africa Cup of Nations in 2013.
