Mountain bike riders descend on Barberton

The spirits were high at the starting point and even the riders that were photographed early on during the races were smiling and joking as they passed the photographer.

Since early this morning mountain bike riders from far and wide were ready to put their expertise to the test during the annual Barberton XCM MTB Challenge. The spirits were high at the starting point and even the riders that were photographed early on during the races were smiling and joking as they passed the photographer.

Founded by the Barberton Rotary Club 19 years ago, the then Barberton Mountain Bike Classic is amongst the oldest of the first official mountain bike races that was held in South-Africa.
Most of the riders make a whole weekend out of their visit to town. The heritage sights as well as the Geotrail, which follows an attention-grabbing route, are definitely some of the things visitors can look forward to.
The race itself will be truly challenging as always and not as delicate as the Barberton Daisy, for which the town is known.
