Gryskatte show their claws

The local rugby season began with a friendly match between archrivals the Gryskatte and Ohrigstad Rugby Club.

LYDENBURG – The local rugby season began with a friendly match between archrivals the Gryskatte and Ohrigstad Rugby Club. The encounter took place at Lydenburg Hoërskool sports field on Saturday, January 31.

The match was attended by diehard supporters who applauded the teams throughout the game. Gryskatte won the match 10-5. It is evident that the hosts laid a good foundation for 2015. The first half of the match was the hardest for both teams, as scoring points was a mission, although the Ohrigstad-based team showed promising continuity throughout the half.

Both teams managed to open the score sheet in the first stanza with tries. In the second half the Gryskatte sealed the match with their second try. Both teams battled to increase their points in the dying minutes of the second half, as they struggled to pass the last line of defence.

John Harvey of Gryskatte said he was happy with a this first practice friendly game. “We would like to encourage community members to come and join us.” Gryskatte will be playing as the second Ohrigstad team in the Lowveld league. “They don’t have enough team members so we will be adding to the players they have,” said Harvey.

Those interested in joining the club this year can contact Harvey on 076-413 5128.
