MBOMBELA – The Lowveld Show Grounds were auctioned on Thursday at the Mercure hotel.
Watch video footage of the much awaited auction, which concluded with a bid of R28 million. This bid was offered by Mr Sahed Mohamed. Mohamed is a representative of the Devland Group, who manages Metro Cash & Carry stores.
The Lowveld Show Society has seven days to confirm their final approval of Mohamed’s bid.
The Mbombela Local Municipality attempted to derail Thursday’s auction by means of an expropriation notice that was delivered to the Lowveld Show Society on Tuesday. In terms of this notice, ownership of the properties on which the grounds are located would be transferred to the municipality on Thursday.
This notice was cancelled in writing after mistakes on the notice were pointed out to the municipality by the society’s legal representative, Mr Johan du Preez.
