City-improvement plans get green light from MLM
The area around Sonpark will soon turn into a City Improvement District.
Mbombela Local Municipality (MLM) adopted the motion for a city-improvement district (CID) during the local council meeting last Thursday.
The suggestion is that the area around Sonpark, stretching all the way to the N4 intersection with the Old Pretoria Road, will become an economic and tourism hub with improved security, cleaning systems and thereby improved patronage.
The idea was discussed during a meeting with South African CID expert, Ms Anne Steffny.
The importance of a CID was brought up by the DA councillor Mr Hannes de Kock during the meeting.
“I feel quite strongly about this motion and I strongly suggest that the municipality adopt it, too. It will mean a massive economical injection into the area and thereby also the city,” De Kock said.
Members of MLM politely accepted and voiced their support for the programme.
The CID process is now in its infancy, with the feasibility meeting, which is the first phase of the development, barely out of the way.
Now that the motion has been adopted, members of the CID board can plan its next meeting to set plans for the CID in motion.
