Chymamusique wins a Metro FM award
Among his accolades, he won three remix competitions conducted by Soulcandi, Blackwhole, ENT and Castle Lite in 2011. Well-known DJs started using his material on their compilations after his achievement.
BURGERSFORT – Local DJ Collen Ntala Mmotla aka Chymamusique, has put Tubatse on the map. He is the first musician of Sekhukhune to win a Metro FM award.
Mmotla scooped the best new artist award at the Metro FM Music Awards which took place in Durban on Saturday February 28. Chymamusique was born on June 1990 in Diphale Village. He started his music career as a jazz pianist in 2000 when he developed a love for house music and started learning production on his own.
Mmotla completed his matric in 2007 and went to study analytic chemistry at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT). Realising that he had a passion for entertainment and not science, he enrolled at Boston City Campus and studied media, where he would write and produce songs in his spare time.
In 2014 Chymamusique finally completed his first independent album after years of releasing singles. His newest release is called The Gift of Sound produced at his own record-label company called Chymamusiq Records. Collen describes his sound as soulful house. On the CD he features Brian Temba, Soulstar, Rona Ray, Charlie Mind Games, Nengah Krisnarini and other local artists.

Mmotla previously shared the stage with the likes of Vinny Da Vincy, Dj oskido, Black Coffee, DJ Christos, Monique Bingham, Ralf Gum, Glen Lewis, QB Smith, Charles Webster, Black Motion and Martin Atjazz to name but a few. His music is played on most national radio stations and national TV channels.
In his acceptance speech Mmotla thanked God, his family and the locals who supported him. He also thanked people who helped in promoting him to garner more votes which included TM Msound and stage company.
Apart from running his own record company, he still produced songs. Mmotla worked with popular producers and Djs Rocco (France), Fresh (RSA), Mi Casa (RSA), Lulo Café and Fistaz Mixwell.
In 2014, Mmotla was in the top 3 on SABC 1’s show called 1’s and 2’s where they were contesting about music videos, music production, song
writing, mixing, radio presenting, producing a show and other music-related aspects. Some of his songs are available on compilations by Dj Claude, Micasa, Lulo Café’s CD on Soulcandi 15, Dj Terrance (Music box 6) under Soulcandi records, Soul Meditation CD by DJ Kanunu , Dj Christos’s latest offering and many more.
