Storm wreaks havoc in small village

One Apiesdoring resident, Lina Hlatswayo was asleep in her bed when she suddenly awoke to the sound of her house crumbling down around her.

BURGERSFORT – On March 15 the Apiesdoring community was hit by a devastating storm. Numerous people were injured an had to be rushed to hospital. Although an estimated 15 houses were completely demolished and many trees uprooted, there were no casualties.

One Apiesdoring resident, Lina Hlatswayo was asleep in her bed when she suddenly awoke to the sound of her house crumbling down around her. According to Lina it was a miracle that she survived without any serious injury. Other residents reported seeing hail fall straight through their roofs during the storm.

Apiesdoring is a railway station about 10 kilometres from Burgersfort and on the R555 that also doubles as a township.

At the Apiesdoring railway site workers reported seeing a truck being moved from the spot where it was parked, through a locked gate and about 40 metres away by the force of the wind. Railway workers and township residents are in the process of repairing the damage caused by this storm.
