Pi Day comes around only once in a lifetime

Hoërskool Bergvlam learners celebrate special date.

Once in a century the date and time aligns to equal the mathematical number Pi, which equals 3.14159265359. This occurrence took place on Saturday of last week on March 14. The time was 26 minutes and 53 seconds after 9:00.

Ms Rista Coetzee of Hoërskool Bergvlam explains that it is worked out as the third month, 14th day, 15th year, 9th hour, 26th minute and 53th second.

“This happens only once in a lifetime and is quite a unique event.”

The learners of Bergvlam celebrated this in style the Friday before, wearing special Pi T-shirts to school. They were also treated to delicious, mouth-watering pie during break time.
