LYDENBURG – As part of celebrating South African Library Week, the local library held a debate event on Friday March 21. Library Week is commemorated from March 14 to 21.
The library hosted learners of Sizo Primary School and they debated on whether people connected at libraries.
This year’s theme was Connect @ your library, which resonated with the belief that libraries connect people to one another, to knowledge and information, to print and electronic resources, to technology and professional support.
“Debates enable students to work cooperatively, brainstorm ideas, develop their vocabulary and read more,” said Rita Bhengu, a local librarian.
The pupils clearly researched the topic. “The two teams got the same points and both received prizes. They each got a cap, a pen, T-shirt and a ball,” she said.
“It was a pleasure to spend the day with them and we hope other schools will also participate next time,” she added.
