Official’s uniforms and pistols stolen

LYDENBURG – Police issued a warning to the public after suspects broke into Capt Mark Plesses’ house over the Easter weekend.
The suspects gained access through the roof. According to station commander
Col Hans Putter, they cut the alarm cables and, using a grinder, cut through the safe.
“They stole two pistols, one being his police pistol and the other his private one. The suspects also stole two police uniforms. The public is urged to be extremely careful when approached or pulled over by bogus police officers. The first thing to ask for is their appointment certificate.”
All SAPS officers are issued with a certificate which looks like an ID card. They do not carry badges and the public should not be fooled by bogus cops trying to flash a badge as identification.
Putter said if anyone suspected anything after being pulled over or confronted, they should contact the SAPS immediately on 013-235-2222.
