A bystander who wishes to remain anonymous said that the accident happened extremely quickly.

LYDENBURG – A six year old boy was  killed on Sunday afternoon in a hit and run accident.

According to Mr Deon Broekman, local Hazmat operator, the boy and two other friends were apparently busy playing with sling shots near the road in Skhila on the R37.

“The boy ran to the road and was hit by a bakkie. The child sustained severe head and internal injuries and died instantly.”

A bystander who wishes to remain anonymous said that the accident happened extremely quickly. “It was like a horror movie. It was an awful sight to see.”

Traffic was blocked until the body of the boy was removed by forensics.  Lydenburg SAPS confirmed the incident and said that an investigation into the matter is underway.

The boy’s name has not been disclosed yet.
