Moz vehicle collides with backactor

ER24, Hi-Tech Medical Service, Mbombela Fire and Rescue and the police were summoned to the scene.

MBOMBELA – Two Mozambicans were admitted to Rob Ferreira Hospital after their Toyota Prado collided with a backactor on the N4 on Thursday morning.

It is believed that the latter turned onto the N4 from a farm road and drove straight across the highway. The Prado, believed to be on its way back to Mozambique, failed to stop and crashed into it.

Both vehicles swerved and glided off the road. The Prado landed on the edge of the road and its occupants, believed to be a husband and wife, were trapped in the car. The backactor’s operator escaped unscathed, though the front part of his vehicle was damaged from the impact.

The man who was driving the Prado sustained fractures to both his arms and legs and the woman’s right leg was fractured in two places.

ER24, Hi-Tech Medical Service, Mbombela Fire and Rescue and the police were summoned to the scene.

The woman was freed after firemen had removed the vehicle’s doors, but freeing the man turned out to be a challenge. It took Mbombela Fire and Rescue roughly an hour to free him using the Jaws of Life. The couple was then rushed to hospital.
