Fraudsters nabbed after robbing man of pension

According to Brig Selvy Mohlala, provincial spokesman of the SAPS, the suspects promised the victim that he would be rich if he brought all his money so that they could double it.

MBOMBELA – Two suspects were arrested on Tuesday after they had allegedly robbed an elderly man of his pension money of close to R300 000 in the city.

According to Brig Selvy Mohlala, provincial spokesman of the SAPS, the suspects promised the victim that he would be rich if he brought all his money so that they could double it.

“He fell for the scam and was robbed,” Mohalala said. The police were alerted and the suspects apprehended. The money was also retrieved. The robbers were arrested for theft under false pretense and fraud. Mohlala appealed to the members of the community to be aware of scams like these and asked them to report it to the police immediately.

He said the suspects deliberately targeted people that they knew had a large sum in their accounts. The Hawks are currently investigating the case.
