Illegal building continues
"The proposed development is not approved by the municipality," said MLM's communication officer, Ms Bessie Pienaar. "The owner has been instructed to stop the illegal construction."
MBOMBELA – Plans to erect structures next to the KaNyamazane Road, have been disapproved by Mbombela Local Municipality (MLM). Yet the developer still continues to build.
Lowvelder reported in April that MS Mabuya Civil Laboratory’s plans to erect housing structures opposite the T-junction of the Agricultural College next to the KaNyamazane Road, were rejected in 2011. The structures would allegedly be used as tourist accommodation and a private dwelling for the owner of MS Mabuya Civil Laboratory, Mr Macdonald Mabuya.
Mabuya ordered the construction to continue, even after MLM ordered it to cease. “The proposed development is not approved by the municipality,” said MLM’s communication officer, Ms Bessie Pienaar. “The owner has been instructed to stop the illegal construction. The illegal structures are not in use. All structural and services matters will have to be addressed in the building plans to be considered once submitted.”
Mabuya told Lowvelder he only wanted to build “platforms where truck drivers could wash their vehicles and stuff”, but according to Pienaar, he informed MLM last week that the structures erected were toilets. Since no building plans had been submitted, no one knew what would happen with the sewage from the toilets.
“If he continues to build, we will take disciplinary action against him,” Pienaar said.
After numerous attempts to retrieve Mabuya’s comment, he was not willing to cooperate.
