Budget grants R15 million for projects in Marloth
Despite a few objections and queries, local residents have welcomed the 2015/16 financial year budget presented to them by the Nkomazi Local Municipality (NLM) at the recent infrastructure-development plan (IDP) meeting.
MARLOTH PARK – Nkomazi’s executive mayor,Cllr Thulisile Khoza, announced seven projects which will take precedence in the Marloth Park area.
“Because we are taking into account that you are paying rates and taxes, you are on top of our list of priorities. You are our priority,” Khoza said.
First in line is a water-treatment works project for the town, which has suffered serious problems for some time.
A total of R3 million of the municipal infrastructure grant has been allocated for the plant.
The two additional water projects comprise upgrades to the Marloth Park rising main at a cost of R4,4 million and to the gravity main at a further R3 million. A total of R1,5 million has been budgeted for electrification purposes, which include medium-infrastructure transformers and underground cables.
Game and field monitoring, which include game count and collaring of lion and rhino, as well as veterinarian training, are also budgeted for at a cost of more than
R105 000. Spraying of alien invasion plants and cutting grass will be on the agenda as well, for which more than R55 000 has been set aside.
Finally, resettlement of ground in the form of diminishing effects of soil erosion will be undertaken at a cost of just over R16 000. Altogether more than R15 million will find its way to Marloth Park in the new financial year.
