Protesters march against poor IDP and budget consultations

LYDENBURG – Residents in Skhila took to the streets on Friday, June 12 to handover a memorandum to Thaba Chweu Municipality. According to the residents they tired of poor IDP and budget consultations by the local municipality.
The angry residents marched from Skhila to TCM to raise their grievances. Various roads were blocked off as the protesters were marching to TCM, SAPS and the traffic officials were deployed to maintain order.
According to Mandla Mohlala a member of Skhila Civic Association and residents of Skhila, the community fears that if they are not included in the budget of the current financial year their needs will not be addressed.
“Our area has a lot of needs which are not been met, if we are not consulted by municipality before they draft the budget it simply means we will never get a tar road and street lights.
It is much better to be included in the meeting unlike been excluded and as the municipality they don’t even know our needs so they will never include us in the budgeting. This is unlawful,” he said. Read more in the next Print edition of the Steelburger/Lydenburg News.
