Penryn’s young ones get up close with the majestic elephant

The children met members of the Big 5 up close.

The grade three pupils at Penryn Preparatory School were treated to an awesome life experience when they visited Elephant Whispers in Hazyview recently.

The children enjoyed their interaction with these majestic mammals as they literally went eye to eye with a member of the Big 5. Up close and personal was the order of the day as the children got to feed the elephants and feel their tough, somewhat hairy, bristly skin on their backs.

They also had the opportunity to appreciate and feel their smooth tusks and the soft, smooth leathery skin inside their ears.

The educational experience was rounded off with a lovely picnic.

One of the learners, Anna Phillips spent the weekend carving an elephant sculpture from a block of wood as a gift for Elephant Whispers. This was much appreciated by the staff who received it with a smile.
