Hoërskool Rob Ferreira recently held a civvies day and asked learners to donate tinned food or clothes to the Witrivier Kos- en Klerekas which assists the less fortunate each week.
Grade 9.2 was the class that managed to gather the most items and won the honour of handing over the donation. The 38 pupils donated 93 tins of food, 495 pieces of clothing, seven pairs of shoes and one doll with seven outfits.
Linel le Roux, the youth worker, accompanied the group and said she aimed to get the learners to look past what they could get from giving. She said a few pupils even donated money to enable the organisation to fulfil a specific need, other than giving out food and clothing.
The bank is a project of the Christelike Maatskaplike Raad (CMR) and is situated at the back of the local NG Kerk. It provides food hampers to more than 60 families each week and welcomes any donations. One of its current needs is size-nine and -10 men’s shoes.
Community members are welcome to drop off any donations at its premises. Enquiries: CMR office on 013-751-3446.
