Case to stop amalgamation to be heard in High Court
This DA action not only includes these two municipalities, but simultaneously all other amalgamations nationwide.

On Monday, DA councillors Philip Minnaar (Barberton) and Steve Schormann (Mbombela) delivered a copy of the High Court application to stop the Mpumalanga Demarcation Board (MDB) from continuing with the Umjindi/Mbombela amalgamation, to both municipalities.
This DA action not only includes these two municipalities, but simultaneously all other amalgamations nationwide.
A press release issued by DA Federal Council chairman James Selfe on August 27, reads as follows, “This comes after the MDB, on August 19, wrote to the minister of cooperative governance and traditional affairs, Pravin Gordhan, and informed him that the board had, in fact, already made its decision on the 17th and 18th of August 2015 to confirm all previous decisions, without exception.
This means that the board has, in direct contravention of due process, completely ignored the objections submitted by the DA and other persons/groups, to the board.”
The case will be heard in the Gauteng High Court on Tuesday September 29.
