Two new teachers have joined Summerhill Prep School Staff members and a new principal will be joining the school in January next year.
Ms Colette Grobler has been a teacher for more than three years and is very happy to be at the school. She says Summerhill has amazing values which inspires her to teach with a new perspective. “The school cares for their children and encourages them to be the best they can be.”
Grobler is married, has a very naughty dog and loves to jog and walk on the farm where she lives. She also likes to spend quality time with family, and visit Kruger National Park.
Katy Wiltshire has been teaching in Cape Town for seven-and-a-half years. She grew up in Zimbabwe but moved to SA after finishing high school. Her mother ran her own preschool, which inspired her to become a teacher.
She is married, has a son in grade four at Summerhill and the family lives in White River. Wiltshire says she’d much rather spend money and time buying children’s books than going to a spa for a beauty treatment.
According to her, the environment at the school is very soothing, the staff are friendly and supportive and the small classes mean that she can give each child the necessary attention.
“Children are treated with respect and in turn show respect for one another and towards teachers,” she stated.
Ms Cheryl Calmeyer will be taking up the position of principal from January next year. She is currently the head of arts and culture at Uplands Prep and has great energy and boundless enthusiasm.
According to the school’s governing body, she is very excited at the prospect of being involved with Summerhill “a school that thinks differently and continues to produce countless well-rounded children, all of whom excel in every high school in which they find themselves. She is, she says, raring to go.”
In January, current principal Coco van Aardt will move to the newly created position of Head of Senior Primary and remain the Grade seven teacher, under the leadership of the new principal.
Verona Wortmann will stay in the deputy principal position and will remain Head of Junior Primary.
