Municipality reacts swiftly to clean up dumped cattle carcasses

Illegal dumping continues to be a big problem in Mbombela.

Mbombela Local Municipality (MLM) reacted swiftly last week when animal carcasses on the side of the road was reported.

Illegal dumping in the city has been a problem for years.

The animal remains, mostly cattle heads, were discovered last Monday.

They were removed by MLM’s environmental management team at the traffic light on the D2296/KaNyamazane Road near MMC’s new management plant on Wednesday.

The land belongs to MLM, but the municipality said last week was the first time they cleaned up the spot, where rubbish was often dumped.

“We have a lot of problems with illegal dumping,” Mbombela’s spokesman, Mr Joseph Ngala said.

The municipality explained that it was too much for its waste removal department to handle, and a service provider had to be appointed by environmental management to clean up the animals’ remains.

“We appeal to people to refrain from dumping trash illegally as this act is not only a health hazard, but also a criminal offence,” Ngala concluded.
