Police search for drugs and armaments at Nakgwadi

DRIEKOP- After rumours that the Nakgwadi Secondary School ’s premises was a hideout for drug dealers and users, the Mecklenburg social crime prevention and Burgersfort Dog Unit (K9) descended on the school.

The police organised a random intensive search of the school premises.

According to the spokesman of Mecklenburg police, Const Elias Setati, most illegal items were found as the visit was a surprise one.

“Some of the matric learners ran away when they saw the police vehicle entering the school gates. It is suspected that they might be the drug mules in the school vicinity,” Setati said.

The Mecklenburg police urged community members to report any illegal activities which directly or indirectly affect the children as they are the future.

• Meanwhile Burgersfort police arrested a 27-year-old suspect for a murder at Apiesdoring on September 3. The suspect allegedly killed his niece with a panga. He is currently in custody at the Lydenburg Magistrate Court.
