Popular restaurant to close doors for a short while
"We will not allow the quality of our cuisine to be influenced by handing this responsibility over to someone else. In the end we will lose more than just customers, we will lose our good name,"
It’s been almost two years since the Belgian restaurant Josephine’s, opened its doors in Barberton. Since November 2013 owners Danielle Vermeeren and her life partner Josephine Laporte, have proven time and time again that they are the cream of the crop when it comes to the restaurant business. None of the initial style and ambience were lost as is the case with many new brooms, which, after a while, tend to go downhill.
Together they have held the reins in their own hands, not slacking down or giving the management over to others, and this is definitely the key to their success. However, there are certain times when they do need to rest or attend family events in their hometown Blankenberge in Belgium.
Josephine’s daughter has just given birth to a baby boy and it was decided that she would leave for Belgium on October 19. Danielle said that although she would remain behind in Barberton for the time being, they decided to close the restaurant.
“Josephine is the head chef and we will not allow the quality of our cuisine to be influenced by handing this responsibility over to someone else. In the end we will lose more than just customers, we will lose our good name and the excellence that Josephine’s is synonymous with,” she said.
Danielle, who will also become a granny early in the New Year, said they hadn’t decided if she would visit when the time comes, but they would keep the community informed.
Both women thanked residents of Barberton as well as everyone from outside who frequented them and made it possible for them to keep their doors open.
They say the town has become home and they will continue to deliver the high standards that everyone came to expect. Their last working day will be Sunday October 18 and they will commence business again on October 28.
