People asked to use water wisely

The water level of the Crocodile River, which provides the town with water, continues to be at an all-time low as the Onderberg heat continues

MALALANE – The water level of the Crocodile River, which provides the town with water, continues to be at an all-time low as the Onderberg heat continues.

The Nkomazi Local Municipality (NLM) has in turn requested residents to continue using water sparingly. “We understand that it is has been extremely hot for the past weeks, and it is also very tempting to have some fun with water. However, at this stage things are not very positive in terms of damming and pumping water, so we are requesting that this also be done wisely,” Cyril Ripinga explained.

Ripinga furthermore added that the water-pump systems are currently operating efficiently and meeting the supply demand for the town. However, the system is still strained due to the lack of rain, and every effort is being taken to keep it running smoothly.

“We are grateful to those who comply with the water restrictions which we have imposed to try and manage the usage of water in most areas. We also hope that the overall water situation will continue to improve,” Ripinga added.

He continued to state that tap water is safe for consumption. He said, “Tap water is safe for drinking. All measures have been taken to ensure that clean and pure water comes out of people’s taps, so the water is safe.”
