Strike restarts after no agreements were reached over service delivery

A truck was set alight on the steel bridge on Friday morning when residents of Malekane Village started a protest over poor service delivery

STEELPOORT – A truck was set alight on the steel bridge on Friday morning when residents of Malekane Village started a protest over poor service delivery.

According to our sources the community is demanding electricity and water. They previously negotiated with the Greater Tubatse Municipality, however, no agreement was reached. As a result the village still does not have service delivery.

A Steelburger/Lydenburg News journalist was at the scene this morning and reported that the police and fire department were recovering the wreckage from the bridge. The strike is also under control due to a strong police presence in Malekane. No injuries or arrests have been reported so far. At the moment all roads including the R555 is clear. Readers will be informed as and when updates are received.
