Rural schools benefit from rally

The event began with a meet-and-greet dinner for all the sponsors the night before.

MBUZINI – This past Saturday various sponsors from different organisations took part in the 2015 Rally-to-Read hosted by RCL Foods. The event began with a meet-and-greet dinner for all the sponsors the night before.

On October 24 the teams met at the TSB Training Centre to collect and load books and learning material onto a trailer. They were given an equal number of books and learning material to deliver to various rural schools in Nkomazi. Each team had two schools which they had to visit, and the one that completed its delivery first, was to report back to the starting point to claim their victory.

The Rally-to-Read programme is made possible by the Read Educational Trust, and there are a total of 10 rallies. These meet the needs of the most rural schools in the country, whether it is in the Eastern Cape, Limpopo or Mpumalanga.

This is a national initiative which strives to get to the most rural schools in the country, providing them with learning matter, and training for teachers.
